Soka Gakkai Representative Joins Conference on International Humanitarian Law
On December 9 and 10, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, a hybrid conference on “Reducing Suffering During Armed Conflict: The Interface between Buddhism and International Humanitarian Law” was cohosted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and three Thai universities. On December 10, Daiki Kinoshita of the Office of Public Relations of the Soka Gakkai presented a Buddhist perspective on humanitarian principles during a breakout session of the conference. He highlighted Soka Gakkai’s contributions to nuclear disarmament, introducing collecting the experiences of hibakusha, and drew on second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda’s Declaration Calling for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons and President Daisaku Ikeda’s proposal 2009 nuclear abolition.
