On September 19, representatives of SGI-Peru (PSGI) and a delegation from Japan led by SGI Vice President Yoshiki Tanigawa, participated in a ceremony at the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) in Lima commemorating the 50th anniversary of President Daisaku Ikeda’s first visit to the university in 1974. Rector Jeri Gloria Ramón Ruffner de Vega commended President Ikeda for his contributions to education. UNMSM had conferred an honorary professorship and an honorary doctorate upon President Ikeda in 1981 and 2017, respectively.   

On September 20, an opening ceremony was held for the new SGI-Peru Culture Center in Lima. Attendees included Juan Enrique Alcántara Medrano, vice justice minister, and Oscar Maúrtua de Romaña, former foreign minister.
