On September 17, Ambassador of Jamaica to Japan Shorna-Kay M. Richards met with Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada and national Women’s Leader Kimiko Nagaishi at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Tokyo. Ambassador Richards, who currently serves as chair of the UN Secretary-General’s advisory board on disarmament matters, shared her reflections on visiting Hiroshima and Nagasaki and how this deepened her understanding of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons. President Harada explained how the Soka Gakkai’s peace activities have developed globally due to President Daisaku Ikeda’s dedicated efforts based on second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda’s 1957 Declaration Calling for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons.
