From April 12 to 14, the 2024 Earth Charter Conference titled “Reimagining Education for Ecological Civilizations” was held at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, USA. The event was hosted by the Earth Charter International (ECI) and cosponsored by the SGI (Soka Gakkai International) among other organizations. On April 12, Joan Anderson, senior coordinator for Peace and Global Issues of the SGI, and Kiyoshi Akasu, programme coordinator for Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Affairs, spoke at a session on education for sustainability. They introduced the SGI’s educational activities based on SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s 2002 environmental proposal and the dialogue Before It Is Too Late between President Ikeda and Club of Rome cofounder Aurelio Peccei. During a plenary session on April 13, Ms. Anderson shared a Buddhist perspective on building a sustainable society. On April 14, at a panel discussion, Mr. Akasu announced the launch of the new #SeedsofHopeandAction hashtag campaign cocreated by ECI and the SGI.
