SGI Participates in Gender Equality Symposium
On January 26, Ivy Koek of the SGI Office for UN Affairs moderated a session on women advancing peace and security during the 7th Annual Symposium on the Role of Religion and Faith-Based Organizations in International Affairs. Held online, the event was sponsored by the SGI (Soka Gakkai International) and Christian and Islamic organizations as well as UN Women and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), for the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Religion and Development. Participants discussed overcoming gender discrimination and bias in the context of recovering from the pandemic and advancing sustainable peace and development. Ms. Koek stressed the need for women’s leadership in disarmament efforts and introduced SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s peace proposals and his dialogues with prominent thinkers.
