Commemorative Meeting in Guam Marks 50th Anniversary of SGI’s Founding

On January 26, a commemorative meeting marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) was held at the SGI Guam Ikeda Peace and Culture Center. Bringing together some 300 local Soka Gakkai members on the island of Guam, where the SGI was founded on January 26, 1975, the meeting was also attended by SGI-USA representatives and a delegation from Japan led by SGI General Director Yoshiki Tanigawa. The event included a performance by Grammy Award winner, trumpeter Shunzo Ono.
On January 25, also marking the SGI’s 50th anniversary, the annual Latte Peace Festival was held in Guam. Both the delegation and the SGI-USA representatives attended. At the festival, Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero issued a proclamation, and the Guam Legislature presented a resolution, both recognizing the SGI’s dedication to world peace.
